    Truly Embracing Black History in Howard Co

    On this, the last day of Black History Month, I thought it important to remind people why such heritage months matter. Particularly in states such as Maryland, which I think many forget are part of The South. Every now and then, a story makes national news such as the one involving the Maryland Delegate in Harford county who thought it okay to utter a derogatory racial slur about a Maryland county that has an unmistakable majority makeup of African Americans in it.     A new council, but is it a NEW council?

    While Historic Ellicott City struggles to find funds for proper flood mitigation, people have been digging into what the last council did and authorized regarding developments upstream to the beleaguered and flood-prone lower Main area. One such property is 8960 Frederick Road, better known as the Tiber Woods project. The project will be bringing more than 35 new townhomes to the area. What was striking about this project are TWO important things: according to the letter seen below, the wetlands for the parcels were declared to NOT be under the jurisdiction of Howard County.
